| Hi!
We just discovered MUDBOG this past Friday. So, we signed up! Thanks for having me! I have seen some other sites that are closed to new membership or only have registration thru a sponsor. We look forward to your mentorship.
We just installed a Moose/K&N Jet Kit, 26 inch tires and a EPI oversize tire clutch kit in a 2006 Yamaha 4x4 Bruin 350.
The clutch kit made a huge difference in low and mid range power.
Now that the RPM's are higher, reverse is a problem due to the REV-Limiter. It is very troublesome when trying to back out of a tight situation, up a small hill, or in the bog. Reverse is almost useless.
We have seen the "rev-limiter defeat switch" on some other models. So, it appears that it is an electrical type rather than a mechanical device. We are looking for any one that has any knowledge or has had experience with this problem.
At this point we don't have a shop manual. One is on the way.The dealer is kind of bewildered and said he'd get back to us.
If anyone can help? Please do! We'll owe you one or two cold ones or some gas!!!
Thanks,

| The reverse rev limiter is electrical, it's just knowing which wires to cut or cross. Unfortunately I'm not versed in Yamaha wiring systems, but I'm quite sure once you get the shop manual it'll give you a wiring diagram and let you know which ones control it.
I'll see what I can dig up.
Welcome to the site!

| I've hunted through a few old posts in some other forums I used to visit quite frequently and looked through most of the Yammy posts regarding reverse overrides.
While there wasn't much information about Bruins being overridden, there was a good bit about Grizzly's and Kodiaks... and the wiring descriptions given sounded VERY similar.
This is an excerpt I pulled from one of the Kodiak threads... I hope it helps in some way, it seems that grounding the Green & White striped wire to the frame does the trick for most other Yamaha models... maybe it'll work for yours. Sorry I havn't been able to find anybody who's actually done it to a Bruin.
"There's different ways to do it, and they have pros and cons. They all consist of grounding the green wire with a white stripe (leave it connected, but tap into it and ground it, don't just cut and ground). When this wire is grounded, it will make the reverse LED, stop working, so you don't know when you are in reverse. I hooked my grounding wire to a toggle switch - then to ground, then you have the LED and reverse limiter as it normally did from the factory (safe for others to ride the ATV), flick the toggle switch, the LED goes out, now you have bipassed the reverse limiter."
Hope this helps,

| Hey Folks!!!!!!
Thanks for the come-back! You gave us something to look for, for sure. We appreciate the time and effort you put in. Looks like we better by a case? Huh?
We'll check out the wire thing tonight when we get back from the real job. I'll let you know how we make out.
Thanks again!

| That sounds how I did my Kodiak. I remember it was behind my left side panel. Start looking around, I'm sure it's in almost the same place. Wish I could be more specific, but it's been 3 years since I did mine and it's now sold and in another state. | | | | Aug 7th, 06, 09:14 PM | | Member Join Date: Aug 2006 Location: N.E. Pa.

| I'mmmmmmmmmm baaaaaaack.........................! We tried different search engines and went with "reverse overide". We found more info like what you folks said. Nothing yet on the Bruin.
As indicted on the GH site and Chuck... we found no green/white wire. We got one that goes to one leg of the neutral start switch on the engine case where the shift lever goes into the case. It has 12 volts on it. Unplug it won't start. When I shift it into forward the oil temp light goes on. I don't think I want to ground that. Ya think? I'm pretty sure both legs have 12v.....unpluged, with a meter on them referenced to the chassis ground.
We have a white/green wire up on that rail going into a 4 wire connector. It goes.......IDKWTF, yet.
I guess it best to wait for the disc repair manual and look at the electrical skuzzmatic!
Shoot! This is driving me nutz! We can't have this......We're doomed in reverse. The kid can't do any "Hondasaki" retrivals from our favorite mud hole. Ahhhhhhh.....the pain! Looks like another sleepless night.........................Lordy ....help me.........
Thanks,

| Sorry that didn't work... the whole thing was based on the assumption that the wiring was the same as the Grizz & Kodiak since they were the same.
Wish there was something more... I'll keep huntin around but there's just not alot of folks doing a reverse override on a Bruin... and honestly I don't know why.
To be honest I don't know why they don't offer it as an OEM feature on all machines but that's a whole different ball of wax right there.
Good luck and let us know what you find out.

| Yeehaa!
That Reverse Override mod was so simple to do, it's sic.The green wire with a white stripe in the red sleeving going to one of the two connections on top of the engine case where the shift rod goes thru was the one needing to be grounded. You can also get at the green/white wire under the seat going to one of the three connectors of the CDI Unit. We chose to solder a wire to the inner top engine case connector and snake it thru the red tubing and harness all the way up to the handle bars and solder it to one leg of the momentary button. That way it is hidden and we got a clean job.
We drilled a 1/4" hole in one of our winch thumb switch brackets and mounted the momentary button. We ran a wire soldered to and eye from one of the handle bar bolts for the ground. Now when in reverse and it starts to sputter...we hit the button ...it's like hitting the "Juice". What a difference!!!!!
Thanks to all who took interest in resolving our problem. If anyone has any questions or wants pictures...?....feel free to email us.
Thanks,

| Fantastic! Glad you got it fixed.
I had a feeling that if the Grizz & Kod were wired alike then the Bruin was most likely a similar setup.
Just be careful not to back over anybody!
