| When when ever I go through deep water it sprays into my air duct and gets the belt wet. Then my quad has no power (it goes a max of 3 km). And we end up draining the water from the quad. This is staring to get really annoying and I love going through deep puddles and mud so its not really an option to stay out of it. So how can I stop the water from going in there?

| What make and model is your machine?
How deep of water are you going through?
Give us some more information on this problem and we'll try our best to suggest some possible solutions.
Welcome to the site.

| Polaris Phoenix 200
The water is about 2 feet but when I gun it it makes a big wall of water and thats when I think that it gets in there.
The quad will have no power and then if it does move it makes a really lowd screachig noise.
Oh and the reverse will work but not forward.
Thanks,

| Since its belt driven, your getting water in your breather, causing the belt to slip, its not that your bike is loosing power, I suggest snorkeling it, or if your gonna be going though deep water, snorkel or get a utility quad.. | | | | Aug 14th, 06, 01:10 PM | | Got mud? Join Date: Aug 2006

| The problem is that the air duct is an oval so how would you put a pipe around it to snorkel it? Do they make oval pipes?
Thanks

| Would have to look at one to get an idea of how to do it, but there has to be a way. | | | | Aug 14th, 06, 03:13 PM | | Ridin Dirty Join Date: Aug 2006 Location: Earth

| Yes, if you can get a close up pic, so I can see it, maybe I can think of something to get it.. | | | | Aug 14th, 06, 03:46 PM | | Got mud? Join Date: Aug 2006

| I think your best bet, instead of running off the old one, is to scrap the stock snorkel completly, and just run a new one off the tranny.. | | | | Aug 14th, 06, 07:59 PM | | Got mud? Join Date: Aug 2006

| It might, depending on its size, but instead of having all the connections and that, and its more prone to leaking, I think your best bet is to get some PVC, or spa hose, and snorkel it higher, straight off the tranny, but do what you like.. | | | | Aug 14th, 06, 08:18 PM | | Got mud? | Ok...I will not be the one doing this. It will be my grandpa so I will tell him and let him figure it out. I am just trying to find all my options. | | | | Aug 14th, 06, 11:24 PM | | Beer Wagon Driver STAFF Join Date: Jan 2006 Location: DFW, Tx.

| Most of the snorkels I've seen use rubber couplings that utilize stainless steel worm-gear clamps to seal them.
Usually plumbers goop or silicone will help seal.
I would recommend ditching the OEM snorkel and coming straight off the tranny.
PVC is recommended, but if you must use pool/spa hose be very careful not to get the hose anywhere near a heat source (head, muffler, exhaust tube, etc.) If it melts (which it will if too close to heat) then you've defeated the purpose of a snorkel and are probly in worse shape than when you started.
Good luck, Ride Safe

| Ok I got some good news. My grandma phoned the Polaris dealer today and they said that Polaris knows that the air duct is a problem so they made a snorkel for the Phoenix and they are going to put it on the 22nd at no cost.
Thank you all for the help!!!

| Ok so heres an update:
My quad got taken in on Tuesday morning. Then tuesday night when the guy from the dealer drooped off my quad I put it in reverse and it made this loud grinding sound. It had never done that before but we were in a hurry so we had no time to look at it. But before we left I looked at the air intake, and it looked the exact same. I was wondering what they did to the quad if that wasnt touched. So today we called the dealer and it turns out that it was the air box snorkel that they fixed. And the air intake dosent have a recall. He said that it is a small quad and its just the way it is. Basicially theres nothing they can do so I am gonna have to fix it my self. Personally I think that Polaris poorly designed the quad. There is a bar over the back tail light so when we are driving and I hit my brakes you cant even see it. This caused at one point of time for someone to hit the back of my quad. Then the air intake is in the stupidest place ever. But at least there is some good news. When we first bought the quad there was a crack on the top of the switch on the left side where the start botton is. We have been trying to get the quad in there to get that fixed before the warranty expired. Wheil it turns out the warranty expired August 3rd. And the dealer said there is nothing that they can do. So today we contacted the dealer again and they have sent in a claim to Polaris and are hoping that since it was a manufactures defect that it can get some kind of warranty to cover it. So now if it is approved we will have to pay $50 for the deductible to cover the switch. Oh, and now AFTER we got it back from the dealer the reverse light will go on then faid away, and when you put it in forward it will studder and then after about 10 seconds it will go in to gear. When you dont have the quad running and you put it in to forward you can feel that it is not locking in to place. It was perfectly fine before we took it to get fixed. I am at the point that I will NEVER get a Polaris again!!!! | | | | |
