Carolina Adventure World

About Carolina Adventure World:
Take 2600 wooded acres of land, bring in developers who are as concerned with preserving natural beauty as they are with bringing a unique family recreation park to the area and you have an idea of the Carolina Adventure World vision. We are the Southern anchor iof the world's largest playground with National Whitewater Park and Carowinds to the North and Myrtle Beach on the East.

Add 100 miles of ATV and single track trails of varying degrees of difficulty from "Green" nature trails meandering along babbling brooks with spectacular views, to "Blue" trails that offer the more experienced riders a chance to open it up. There are "Black Diamond" trails for those that have the skills and experience to ride the challenging hill climbs, and the technical trails that will stand even the most seasoned rider's hair on end!

Throw in a Motocross Area designed by Dirt Wurx U.S.A. that features a Championship Motocross course, a Vintage course for ATV competitors that love the "air time" and the thrills and chills of competition, plus an Enduro Course that challenges the skills and stamina of even the best of the best.

Include a thriving nature preserve, a youth area complete with go karts and more. Include dining, snack and entertainment features along with several more "family-friendly" activities. This is Carolina Adventure World.

A natural beaver pond, a lake, streams, water falls, picnic areas, scenic natural areas, and accommodations for overnight stays from rustic camp sites to comfortable cabins await you and your family. Don't forget a lodge and welcome center with wide verandas, swings, and rocking chairs, fans to keep cool, and fireplaces for warmth. You'll find it at Carolina Adventure World.

A unique destination for individuals and families who want fun, adventure or just a place to go and relax for a few hours or a few days.

So, how will you spend your day? The only problem you'll have with that decision is deciding what to do first!
Here's just one idea:

  • Call ahead or purchase a ticket online (when available.)
  • Drive into the Welcome Center, pick up tickets and suppies.
  • Head for the service center where your ATV, motorcycle, or golf cart is prepped and waiting.
  • Choose the trail you want to ride. Don't ride? Rent a golf cart or bring a bike for a ride around the park on nature trails.
  • Break for a quick lunch at the grill and head off to another trail or fun activity.
  • End the day at the Mud Bog where a water cannon will rinse you off.
  • Take your vehicle back to storage and enjoy a picnic with friends and family.

Stay overnight and do it all again the next day! Or do something completely different. There will be so much to choose from at CAW.

Off-road riding enthusiasts preview Carolina Adventure World

Tuesday, January 2, 2007
By NEIL WHITE / Associated Press

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, S.C. -- Rather than spend New Years Day sitting on the couch watching a parade of football games, the people who ventured outside here on a wet Monday were living their sport.

Carolina Adventure World, the new, 2,600-acre motorized recreation park off Interstate 77s Exit 46 about 20 miles north of Columbia, rang in 2007 with a preview of the park.

Visitors couldn't wait to get mud-caked at the scenic spot that's like a Disneyland for outdoor enthusiasts.

Nat Humphries, a Lake Wateree resident, brought his wife, Liz, and three sons, Scott, 7, Alan, 4, and Mark, 3, for a first-time look at the off-road complex that features 100 miles of trails.

"We've been waiting for this place to open for two years. This is what this area has needed," said Humphries, a member of the North Carolina Hare Scramble Association, a riding organization.

Added Scott as he splattered by on his trail bike: "That's a lot of mud!"

Jim Blank, executive vice president of Carolina Adventure World, said owner Don Wilburn envisions the park as a family-friendly destination.

"Its just a fun place, no matter what age or what sex you are," Blank said. "You control what you do, where you go, how fast you go. There's something for everybody."

If you're not into the breakneck pace of four-wheelers or dirt bikes, you can take a leisurely ride in a golf cart around the wooded acres that include a beaver pond, a lake, streams, waterfalls and picnic areas.

The park will open to the public in the spring. For now, only annual pass holders will be allowed on the trails until the eventual grand opening. Memberships cost $350 for an individual and $500 for a family of four.

Jim McPherson of Cameron, N.C., was pleasantly surprised by what he saw.

"I'm almost ready to move down here. There aren't a lot of places like this. This is pretty impressive," said McPherson, who cited the family- and youth-friendly nature of the parks trails.

His friend, Vann Gibson of Sanford, N.C., who has ridden motocross bikes since 1978, came away just as impressed.

"Its one of the nicest courses I've ever ridden on," Gibson said. "The motocross track is what lured me down here. The layout is awesome."

Gibson laughed when asked if he would rather be indoors watching football.

"We're enthusiasts. We don't play golf. We dirt-bike ride. Its not a middle-class type of sport. Its a way of life. This is good exercise. Its not like riding a bike down the highway. You're fighting it, you're maneuvering it out here."

Tim Couse of Huntersville, N.C., pulled up in his pickup. Inside the truck were his wife, Tracy, and sons Tyler, 8, and Trent, 5. The truck was hauling a trailer that carried an all-terrain vehicle and three dirt bikes -- all shiny new Christmas presents primed to kick up a lot of mud.

"From everything we've seen, it seems like its going to be ideal for us," said Couse, who grew up in upstate New York riding all-terrain vehicles.

Tyler, sporting a snazzy new racing suit, agreed. "I can lift my dirt bike off the ground," he boasted.

Blank chuckled at the thought of how much busier the park might have been with sunny skies, but a little rain wasn't about to dampen the visitors enthusiasm.

Robert Brumfield of Lexington, his wife, Stephanie, and brother-in-law Ryan Walt of Dacula, Ga., were just thrilled that Brumfield didn't have to load up his camper for a trek to Georgia or Tennessee to engage his passion for riding ATVs.

"We've been looking forward to this place opening because its close to home," Brumfield said.

I'm hoping to go back this weekend. I am SO glad we forked over the money for the season pass. Swishing that card hurt like.... nevermind. But it is going to be worth it. When they say "wet Monday", what they really mean is soaking wet, muddy, finger/toe numbing cold. But hey, what do I know? LOL.

Maybe Texas should consider doing this instead of building all those damn subdivisions full of houses 6ft. from one another.

Seems like every state but ours is getting it's act together and appropriating land for off-road use.

Ride Safe,

Chuck

Smile Carolina Adventure World...Awsome

I took my family there 3 times over the last year and have had a blast every time. We live in Charleston SC so its only a 2 hour drive to get there. I haven't ridden all the trails due to the fact that i have two kids on 90's and keep to the blue beginner trails. It looks like they are modeling to be like Durham Town Plantation. Another good place but 5 hours from Charleston. I highly recomend it to any who likes atving.

East Tennesse has a Ton of places to ride! I have 4 Huge OHV parks all with in 1.5 hours from me. One is Coak Creek 72,000 acres, Brimstone not sure on size but about 200 miles of trails. Royal Blue which is now North Cumberland WMA has about 400 miles of trails and Pickett which is FREE to ride and around 180 miles of trails. The most expensive yearly pass is Coal Creek and theirs is $88.00 for one year. Ther are alot more places to ride as well Black Mt. here in Crossville has around 100 or so miles of trails.

Ccrane, Move east to Tennessee.....you'll love the riding atleast.
